The main character in this book is Mark Sway who is eleven years old and witnessed a lawyer, Romey, shooting himself to death. Just before the lawyer shot himself, he told Mark a big secret. He told Mark that his client killed a senator and burried him in the lawyer's garage. Now the only person who knew where the senator was buried was the Mafia and Mark. As soon as the reporters, FBI, and cops, found out that Mark had witnessed the suicide they were all asking him questions. Mark took things into his own hands and hired a lawyer, Reggie Love.
The FBI wanted to talk to Mark as did the Mafia but the Mafia got to him first. They told him not to tell anyone what Romey had told him or else they would kill him and his family. Mark goes to court and is asked by the judge to tell what happened. He ends up in Juvenile Detention Center for refusing to answer the judge's questions and for his safety. Mark has a plan to escape from the Center and to make sure the body is where Romey told him it was. Mark only tells Reggie about his plan and she doesn't think it will work, but they still agree to carry it out. Whether the plan works or not is for you to find out!
