The main character in this book is Patrick Lanigan who stole ninety million dollars from his law firm and went to Brazil, where he was hiding. Patrick faked his death and soon after his funeral, ninety million dollars were missing from the firm. He was caught, tortured, and then turned over to the FBI who brought him back to the USA. Patrick was in the FBI's hands and in the hospital but no one knew where all the money was except for Patrick. Patrick hired a lawyer and they sued the government and the FBI for drugging and torturing him.
             Patrick was charged with capital murder, theft, and wire fraud which could mean death for Patrick. But Patrick had evidence proving that the firm had planned to kick Patrick out after they "screwed the government out of ninety million dollars." He had close to sixty tapes of conversations between the partners in his firm and Patrick had taken the money but was willing to give it back. Now he had to go to court and hope that the evidence he had collected would help him walk free. Patrick was confident of being set free but the FBI was confident that they had Patrick just where they wanted him. In their hands and on his way to death row.
